Let It Go

We live in a society where the norm is to constantly add new goals and tasks, whether it’s for professional or personal development. What we should do instead is to reflect on what we already do and REMOVE tasks that no longer serve us. The most common complaint I receive from my clients is not having enough time for themselves.

We live in a culture where we have to do more and obtain more, but we’re starting to see this results in burnout, and worse, we’re not accomplishing what’s truly important and meaningful to us. By saying no and removing unnecessary and time consuming activities, we’ll have more time for things that are truly important to us.

Emma, a working mom of two kids, experienced burnout and was ready to turn her life around. We went through what a typical day looks like and evaluated each activity: whether it brought her closer to her goals or brought her happiness. She realized that she was doing so many unnecessary tasks because it was what she thought was expected of her and neglected what brought her meaning and purpose. After removing those unnecessary tasks, she realized she had so much more time to spend with her kids and she was in a much better mood.

As you reflect on what you can remove ask yourself these questions:

  • Is it meaningful or purposeful in your life?

  • Is it related to your top 3 priorities?

  • Does it bring joy?

  • How does it make you feel?

  • What are you getting from it?

Remember, less is more.
